  • What are Spiritual Fitness Camps?

Spiritual Fitness Camps is a nationwide drive targeting youth ages 7-18 (both boys and girls).

The Camp is led by a local missionary and is a pre-defined interactive program with active involvement from the youth.

Conducted at the local (can also be regional) jamaat level, at least once per year (typically during summer vacations)

Two weekends are reserved on the National calendar for this camp. Human and financial resources are provided by National Tarbiyat department.

Hands-on: focuses on demonstrating knowledge, creating presentations, applying knowledge.

  • Why?

Our youth has questions and is at risk of disengagement. Majlis-e-Shura recommended Spiritual Fitness camps to be conducted to engage the youth through dialogue, sports, field trips, and friendships.

Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Ayyadahullāhu Ta‘ālā Bi-Naṣrih-il-‘Azīz has frequently and repeatedly drawn our attention to the fact that our Youth need Attention and the responsibilities and conduct of higher moral excellence of office-bearers in this regard…Huzoor is entrusting us with the Tarbiyat of the next generation…this is taken from Huzoor’s Friday Sermon of August 16, 2013 as referenced in the booklet “I Solemnly Pledge”

“It is vitally important that our youth understands what our religion is and why we are commanded to do and to avoid certain things…the questions raised by our younger generation should be answered by the responsible members of the Community in a nice and engaging manner.” (Friday Sermon August 16, 2013)

  • When?

We have blocked the weekends of June 17, 18 and August 12, 13  2023 on the National Jama’at calendar to facilitate your holding the Camp locally (or regionally).

  • Who can Attend?

It is for all fully vaccinated Ahmadi boys and girls 7 - 18 years of age

  • How long is the Camp?

The camp should be held for one day. If you would like to incorporate a sleepover at the mosque and have the facility to do so for the boys, you may call them to the mosque the night before at Maghrib/Ishaa time and end the following day at the same time.

  • Is there a Program or Agenda?

This purpose of this year’s Camp is to reignite the love for the Mosque in children’s hearts. We don’t want the camp to be education heavy. No educational competition or prize distributions are needed (should be kept light and engaging rather than competitive). It should be more activity based with sports and good food. One question and answer session should be held with the local missionary. Please see accompanying document for details on how to conduct this session.

  • How/Process?

Complete details are available on the Spiritual Fitness website. Please read the “Guidelines for Organizers” document first. A summary checklist is also provided.

  • What is the Budget?

The cost for SF Camps is typically supported by the National Tarbiyat Department (NTD). The budget is dependent on the number of youth who attend the Camp. NTD will typically reimburse up to $15/student/day for food. Another $20/student can be reimbursed for a field trip. Please obtain pre-approval before incurring any expense. See the “Budget & Expense Reimbursement Guidelines” document below for more details.

  • What is the target age group for this camp?

The camp is open to fully vaccinated Ahmadi Muslim youth (boys and girls). The junior camps are open to those ages 7 to 12; senior camps are aimed at youth ages 12+ to 18.

  • Is this a boys-only camp? Can girls also attend?

The camp must be open to both boys and girls. Please make sure that Islamic traditions are meticulously followed, that girls receive equal opportunities, and that the local Lajna Ima’illah Sadr is involved in the decision-making process

  • Why can’t we develop our own program locally?

No changes to the program should be made as a lot of work, consultation, and best practices have gone into developing this program and it adequately addresses the challenges our youth face.

  • What if we want to hold a weeklong Spiritual Fitness Camp?

From previous years’ participants, it is found that a 1-day program held on the weekend is more focused and objective oriented. Therefore, all the plans have been made accordingly.

  • Should we use the same program for a 12-year-old and an 18-year-old participant?

Separately conduct a “junior” program for the 7-12 year age group and simultaneously a “senior” program for the 12-18 age group. Keep programs light on lecture style teaching and more on hands on activities, sports, and discussions/QA.

  • What sort of a team is needed to hold this camp?

Principal, volunteer teachers (both women and men), ziafat, sports, audio-video, security, cleaning, first aid. Have a treasurer to keep track of expenses and receipts. While a Missionary (Murabbi) should be there to take some of the classes, most of the camp will be conducted by your local volunteers.

  • We don’t have a missionary. How can we hold a camp?

National Tarbiyat department can help. Please contact us at least 6-weeks before the scheduled date of your camp.

  • Will we get any funding from the National Tarbiyat department?

Yes. If you submit a detailed, line-item budget, and don’t have enough local funds to cover the cost, we will do our best to help you. We anticipate the cost of the camp to be less than $15/per day/per participant. Please refer to budget document to the latest allowed expenses

  • Do you have a template or check-list for conducting a successful SF Camp?

Yes. Please go through the “Guidelines for Organizers” document carefully and review the website for other material, such as guidelines, materials, schedules, sample budget, best practices etc. Please review, understand, and consult these materials. Taking a print-out of these will be useful.
